IAEA to Survey Radioactive Water in Sea: Experts Already Warning of Seafood Contamination
The IAEA, the UN nuclear watchdog agency, is to survey the long-term effects of the spillage of radioactive water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power on the maritime environment in the Pacific Ocean.
The International Atomic Energy Agency made the decision at a regular meeting of board governors in Vienna on Tuesday.
Australia, South Korea and Indonesia will lead the survey on possible sea pollution in the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea.
The survey will collect samples of radioactive substances in sea waters and will compare them with data collected before the nuclear accident in Fukushima.
The maritime survey will be conducted over 4 years, beginning in July.
The question to ask, is will they be honest on their findings? So far, government agencies have been more than dishonest and I can only assume that this will continue. With fish dying all over the Pacific and the bulk of our Tuna and Salmon coming from the Pacific , it makes me wonder if the truth will come out. What panic this would cause if the tests come back positive and their studies show a high concentration of Radioactivity in the sea. With a span of over four years, I’m sure they will try to sweep this one under the rug and hope everyone forgets about what is happening in the seas of Japan. As always we will keep you up to date on any new news on this crisis. Below is a quote from one expert on the subject
Arnie Gundersen, nuclear consultant
“So eventually though we are going to see top of the food chain animals like tuna and salmon and things like that that have this process bio accumulates. The bigger fish gradually get higher and higher concentrations. And I am concerned that the FDA is not monitoring fish entering the United States because sooner or later a tuna is going to set off a radiation alarm at some part and people are going to think it’s a dirty bomb or something like that. So that’s not here yet because the tuna haven’t migrated across the Pacific. But I am thinking by 2013 we might see contamination of the water and of the top of the food chain fishes on the West Coast.”
